Saudi Arabia launches first ever girls' council - with only men attending

Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to Meet US President Donald Trump

Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in charge of Saudi Arabia's reforms, left on Monday for Washington to meet President Donald Trump on a visit expected to promote the world's top oil exporter as an investment destination.

The ambitious - if impatient - grandson of 81-year-old Saudi King Salman became the face of a "Saudi Vision 2030" campaign last year, launching the long-term blueprint aimed at guiding the kingdom through economic turbulence brought on by years of low global oil prices.

"The meeting today restored issues to their right path and form a big change in relations between both countries in political, military, security and economic issues", a senior adviser to Prince Mohammed said in a statement.

US officials said Trump was considering ending Obama's suspension late previous year of the sale of USA -made precision-guidance munitions to the Saudis, which the Obama administration said was due to thousands of civilian casualties from Saudi-led air strikes in Yemen. In the latter country, in particular, a Saudi-led coalition supported by Washington has been bombing Iran-backed Shiite rebels for almost two years. The meeting made way for better relations between the two nations, especially after a strained diplomacy between the Obama administration and Saudi Arabia, reported Reuters.

Trump has been repeatedly criticized for failing to put Saudi Arabia on the list, despite some of the 9/11 terrorists hailing from the country.

Maybe in Saudi you can grab one since in al-Qassim province, Saudi Arabia inaugurated its first girls' council on Saturday - which had no girls.

More broadly, the statement also addresses the need for collaboration in the fight against the Islamic State militant group - the White House referring to the group as "Daesh", its Arabic acronym, for the first time.

The young prince is due to meet with Trump and other senior U.S. officials to "discuss strengthening bilateral relations", according to the agency.

Despite the previous tensions, Saudi Arabia has expressed optimism in the United States ability to rebuild this relationship with Washington and to contain Iran's reach in the Gulf region.

During that meeting, Netanyahu called Iran's atomic program a threat to Israel, although Israel is widely believed to possess the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East.
