Brendan Rodgers shocks after revealing best player he has ever coached

Dedryk Boyata scored the only goal when St Johnstone visited Celtic Park in January

Speaking at Celtic's end-of-season-awards event, Rodgers was asked who was the best player he had ever coached. The Irishman's man management skills are widely recognised in the game and are very evident within his current squad at Celtic.

Despite working with stars such as Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho, Rodgers gave a tongue-in-cheek response, insisting Mario Balotelli was the best he had coached.

With tongue firmly pressed in cheek, the ex-Liverpool manager replied: "Mario Balotelli. he was a fantastic player". "Amazing" complete with a cry-laughing emoji and a kiss.

Jurgen Klopp didn't believe he had a place for Balotelli at Liverpool either, given he already had Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, and Danny Ings.

Balotelli proved a huge flop at the Premier League club, scoring just three times in 23 appearances and failing to live up to his hefty £16 million price tag from AC Milan.

The striker was forced to train on his own during pre-season before he joined Nice in a free transfer on deadline day.

The 26-year-old has rediscovered his best form since leaving Liverpool, helping Nice to third in the Ligue 1 table with 14 goals in 18 starts.
