Rutgers Men's Lacrosse Misses NCAA Tournament for Second Consecutive Year

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

For more information on the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship, including a complete bracket, log onto ncaa.com. The brackets were released Sunday evening.

It's also the 10th time the program has hosted a round of the tournament and first time since 2013 that the Lions have hosted the first and second round. The victor faces either Amherst or Springfield on Saturday.

Coach Kellie Young is becoming accustom to seeing her team selected for the tournament.

The No. 3-ranked Orange (12-2) earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host a playoff game at 7:30 p.m. next Sunday.

The Castleton women are off to William Smith College.

This is the sixth NCAA tournament appearance for OSU, third under coach Nick Myers. "I thought we played a little individual on Friday and I thought today was more team defense and we kind of set Megan up to have more saves and I thought Megan Taylor had an outstanding game as always", the Marriotts Ridge graduate said.

NU, who never trailed in a four-plus hour contest that included a lengthy weather delay, topped Penn State, 14-13, to land a date with top-ranked Maryland in Sunday's conference championship game. Following a first-round bye, the Trojans defeated conference rival Stanford in the second round to become the first-ever West Coast team to advance into the NCAA quarterfinal round. The Buffs will travel to Penn to take on UMass on Friday, with the victor playing either the host Quakers or Navy in the second round on Sunday. "We will head out to Mount Union and give it everything we've got".

The Nittany Lions were routinely scoring 15 goals an outing, and nearly all of their opponents struggled to keep up on the way to a 10-0 start to the season. SU has played in six games against teams represented in the tournament, including two against North Carolina, with Syracuse going 5-1 against tournament teams this season.

Fans are going to look at the records of teams such at Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Johns Hopkins and wonder why they made the tournament over Rutgers and it all comes down to RPI. These preliminary-round games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions.

Syracuse or another current ACC team has appeared in the national championship game every year since 1998, with one of those teams winning 13 out of those 18 times.
