Don't let America down on health care, Trump tells Senate Republicans

"These Republicans voted to take away people's health care".

Portman suggested ways to ease the impact of the House's Medicaid cuts, including using a multi-billion fund the House provided to help states provide financial assistance for insurance and gearing the bill's tax credits more toward lower-income people. But Mr. Trump and far-right groups will put tremendous pressure on them to pass this awful bill or something similarly bad.

For now, one doesn't have to be a fan of the Affordable Care Act or a Democrat to conclude that what happened Thursday did not represent progress toward a better America.

The Senate version may "incorporate" elements of the House bill, but the House bill will not be the starting point, according to Senators who are part of a 12-member "working group" that's been meeting for weeks to assemble the Senate healthcare bill. Democrats taunted Republicans with "na na na na hey hey hey goodbye" as they left the chamber for what they see as the death knell for their majority.

As Republicans crossed over the vote threshold to pass the Bill, Democrats in the House began singing "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye", a rowdy suggestion that Republicans will lose seats in the 2018 congressional elections due to their vote.

A political group with ties to the House Republican leadership, American Action Network, said Sunday it was buying $500,000 in television time to promote the health care bill. Among Democrats, 13% favour the bill and 17% were unsure. Concern has focused in particular on women's health issues, and especially pregnancy.

"Progressives are going to hang this around the necks of every one of those Republicans", said Angel Padilla, co-founder of the liberal group Indivisible. The bill has provoked widespread condemnation as hospital associations, consumers and insurers have said the new proposals would make health care less affordable.

House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wis. discusses the Republican agenda as he faces reporters during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington. A near-majority, 49 percent, say they don't expect the bill to affect them very much, or that they aren't sure what effect it would have.

House Speaker Paul Ryan declared on Sunday the Republican House health care bill was not only good policy but also good politics, fulfilling the long-standing GOP campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare. But it will keep some of the benefits of the ACA.

"Don't know what's in it", Senator Lindsey Graham said before the vote. "The Senate will complete the job".

Democrats say it would make insurance unaffordable for those who need it most and leave millions more uninsured.

"The bill that Republicans passed. really has nothing to do with health care".
