Family says JetBlue kicked them off plane over carry-on cake

A New Jersey family said they were removed from a Jet Blue flight from New York to Las Vegas on Saturday over a birthday cake they brought onto the plane

Speaking with ABC7, Minta Burke says she and her family were removed and rebooked by JetBlue due to a carry-on buttercream cake. The most recent incident involved a New Jersey family who were flying to Las Vegas on JetBlue.

Cameron Burke had originally placed the cake in the overhead locker as a surprise for his wife Minta's birthday - but when it was spotted by a flight attendant, he was told to move it under a seat instead, ruining the surprise and foreshadowing a odd series of events that would see them kicked off their flight.

"You know, you could see the gestures - then she was pointing to her, did you tell him he couldn't put anything in the overhead compartment?", Cameron said. Cameron had reportedly stored the cake in the overhead bin above his seat, but was later told it needed to be moved. He instead refused, pulled out his cell phone and started recording.

Port Authority police questioned the family, then left to speak to the flight attendants.

JetBlue released a statement saying, "(The customer) refused multiple requests from the crew to remove the items. became agitated, cursed and yelled at the crew, and made false accusations about a crewmember's fitness to fly."The passengers were very understanding". The family's 7-year-old son can be heard crying during the questioning, while their daughter, 9, can be heard telling her parents that she's scared.

Despite this assessment, the family was still removed from the flight and, oddly, immediately refunded.

"She said I was being non-compliant", Burke explained.

"I know, I know, I know, I know", Cameron Burke reassures her.

The flight attendant later claimed the family was "cursing" and disruptive, which you can see from the footage doesn't exactly appear to be true.

The captain made the decision that the family would not be allowed to fly, McGraw said.

"She has no business serving the public", he told the newspaper.

The officer tells the family they did nothing wrong but will have to rebook their flight, according to the airline's orders. "I hope JetBlue will retrain their staff and recreate the culture I once loved". The airline alleges that non-compliance and hostility were the reasons for booting the family.

Minta's husband Cameron admits that he asked the flight attendant if she had been drinking.

Earlier this month, a Southern California father posted video showing him and his family being booted from a Delta flight after refusing to give up a seat.

BTW, they re-booked their flight to Vegas. on United.
