Melissa McCarthy's SNL return as Sean Spicer ends with passionate Trump kiss

McCarthy's return highly-anticipated return as Spicer involved riding a mechanized podium through the streets of NY, yelling at his possible replacement as she peeled apples onstage, and getting what most foreshadow as the kiss of death from Baldwin's Trump.

Colin Jost of "Weekend Update" set the tone an hour in with this observation: "Most of us think this every week, but this week was insane". When she hosts, it never fails that she'll do something completely goofy like this. With the actual Spicer rumored to be on the way out the door despite his willingness to flat-out deny reality on a daily basis, McCarthy's Spicey can only succumb to the fate of all those who'll eventually learn what serving Donald Trump really entails. Stephen Colbert also tied the classic gangster movie to Trump.

Melissa McCarthy and Alec Baldwin have returned to Saturday Night Live, and it might be our favourite sketch yet.

Later, Melissa McCarthy reprised her role as Spicer.

Not to hyperbolize but this might have been the most important SNL sketch of Sean Spicer's career, what with a rumor circulating that President Trump is considering replacing him with a Fox News personality.

"Can you just do this full time?" one reporter asked. "The impersonation will likely supersede the real person, like Dana Carvey's George H.W. Bush or Chevy Chase's deeply inaccurate yet effective Gerald Ford". So it was time for SNL's Spicer to have some sort of personal reckoning. "Melissa McCarthy owns him in a way that only the best impressions can".

Blowing his top, Spicer ripped down a support column and hurled it at the reporter.

The press ask Huckabee if she can take over, and imply that President Trump is set to fire Spicer anyway.

When Spicer's job security is questioned, she drove her motorized podium to Trump, played, as always, by Alec Baldwin, who doesn't do much to reassure her.

In the final scenes of the press briefing, reporters ask if Spicer is surprised Trump fired Comey before him.

This week's episode of "Saturday Night Live" focused on President Trump and Sean Spicer, the president's press secretary. She couldn't believe Trump got to fire the man investigating him and wondered why the president wanted to pick a fight with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Russians.

Juicy tidbits like these give fodder to "SNL" writers while building excitement around the show. "I can't I have a wife, I took vows", recoils Spicer.

The first half of the skit was business as usual, but the latter half featured the roving Spicey New York caught a glimpse of earlier in the week. The scene was later broadcast in a pre-taped sketch Saturday night. When words aren't enough, McCarthy turns to a Russian nesting doll to explain the White House's rank and file. "After all, the president has been known to watch television - and sometimes have strong reactions".
