"Pakistani Army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 0715 hours along the Line of Control (LC) in the Nowshera Sector", said an official statement from the army.

The Foreign Ministry said it summoned an Indian diplomat in Islamabad to register a protest and "strongly condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations" by Indian troops.

The victims, a 13-year-old girl and a 51-year-old man, were killed when mortar bombs hit parts of district on the Indian side of the official border known as the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

Preempting Indian bid to convert the Muslim majority in Indian occupied Kashmir into a minority, Pakistan has called upon the United Nations to help thwart such demographic changes. Pakistan denied the allegation.

Pakistani troops have also started indulging in unprovoked firing along the worldwide border of the Jammu and Samba districts. And both sides maintain their troops gave befitting reply to the other side.

Tensions reached unsafe levels again last September, with both sides blaming one another for cross-border raids.
