The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says an airstrike on a village in Islamic State terrority by the US-led coalition killed several innocent civilians.

The base is being expanded to become a launching pad for operations to oust militants from the eastern province of Deir Zor, that straddles Iraq, from the south east of Syria, regional intelligence sources say.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the explosions happened Monday night near the market area of the Rukban camp that houses about 80,000 displaced Syrians.

The activist-run Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently says the strike hit a convoy of farm workers, killing 22 people.

The Observatory said that strike hit vehicles carrying farmworkers home from fields in the afternoon.

He said that it couldn't been the US-led coalition and it had never struck Abu Kamal.

In its statement, Centcom confirmed that it had "destroyed an ISIS pump jack and an ISIS well head" near Abu Kamal and that it had fired nine strikes near Raqqa. The Hala Akhbar site's report has not reported on the number of killed or injured.

IS has lost swathes of the territory it once held in Raqa province, though it still holds Raqa city and some areas to the east.

Syrian forces, led by Kurdish generals and supported by the U.S., are continuing to advance towards the city.

Turkey had protested against plans by the USA to arm Kurdish groups in northern Syria, describing the move as a relic of the Obama era. It said another 25 civilians were killed in Boukamal, AP added.

According to the Syrian opposition, their investigation showed that hundreds of Syrian troops and Shiite militias supported by Iran, with tanks and heavy equipment have moved in the last few days to the city of Saba, Bear, sparsely populated desert areas that leads to the Jordanian and Iraqi borders.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said in March that 45,000 people have fled west Mosul since the push to seize it from IS began in February.
