North Korea: US and South Korea tried to assassinate Kim Jong Un

US and South Korean agents are plotting to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, North Korean state media report.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo was in South Korea this week, conducting "detailed security discussions" with his South Korean counterpart and visiting an island near the border between North and South, the US military command in South Korea said in a statement Tuesday.

US and South Korean intelligence agencies have allegedly attempted to assassinate Kim Jong Un, North Korean state media report.

It said South Korean agents gave money and satellite communication equipment to the North Korean to attack Kim Jong-un during a public event with a biochemical weapon such as a delayed-action radioactive or "nano poisonous" substance.

North Korea held a large military parade in Pyongyang on April 15, but KCNA reported contacts between Kim and the South Korean agents as late as April 20.

The two intelligence agencies, "hotbed of evils in the world, hatched a vicious plot to hurt the supreme leadership of the DPRK", the news agency said, using the initials of the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

South Korea has accused Pyongyang of assassination plots, too, most recently in February following the murder of Kim Jong Nam, allegedly at the hands of North Korean agents.

"A ugly terrorists' group, which the Central Intelligence Agency and the IS infiltrated into the DPRK on the basis of covert and meticulous preparations to commit state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership of the DPRK by use of the bio-chemical substance, has been recently detected", the statement goes on.

On Thursday, the House voted overwhelmingly to tighten sanctions on North Korea by targeting its shipping industry and companies that do business with the reclusive state.

In the statement Friday, the ministry said in response to the alleged plot on Kim Jong Un, a "Korean-style anti-terrorist attack will be commenced from this moment to sweep away the intelligence and plot-breeding organizations of the US imperialists and the puppet clique", referring to South Korea.

"There is no doubt that the United States and South Korea have been thinking about eradicating Kim Jong Un, but it is hard to put into practice", he said.

The bill, which will go to the Senate for final approval, prohibits North Korean ships or those from any other country, including China, that refuse to comply with the resolutions of the UN Security Council condemning the ballistic missile launches from operating in USA waters or docking at U.S. ports. Such moves would be a step toward the country's goal of developing nuclear-armed missiles capable of reaching the USA mainland.
