Vettel happy again after extending lead with Monaco GP win

Championship leader Sebastian Vettel has won his first Monaco Grand Prix for Ferrari, ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen with Australia's Daniel Ricciardo third in his Red Bull.

Vettel moved 25 points clear of Hamilton in the title race after he recorded his third win of the season while the British driver finished only seventh in Monte Carlo.

Button failed to live up to a pre-race request from Fernando Alonso, who asked him from Indianapolis to "take care of my auto", however all Button promised to do was "pee in (Alonso's) seat".

Post the current result, Sebastian leads the drivers' title with a total of 129 points, followed by Lewis who has a total of 104 points.

The four-time world champion from Germany took the chequered flag in Monaco ahead of pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen as Ferrari claimed a podium one-two.

Behind the two Ferraris came the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo with Hamilton's teammate Valterri Bottas's Merecedes in fourth. I could close up on Sainz, but I had to balance the risk of trying to pass him in a vehicle that was struggling, against the possibility of throwing away what points we could score.

"This vehicle is not working everywhere we go but the more races we do the more learn and the stronger we get".

While Ferrari can argue it was covering off the threat of the early-stopping Verstappen and Bottas, Raikkonen ultimately lost out on what would have been a deserved first victory since 2013.

McLaren pitted him on lap one to get the tyre change out of the way, but he was baulked as Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein was let go on an unsafe release, and Button spent 60 laps stuck behind the Sauber before attempting a maneuver which saw both cars go out.

"As it turned out, obviously today it worked in my favour which, as I said, I will take it but we are a team at the end of the day and I can see that Kimi's not happy". "It's still second place but it doesn't count a lot in my books at least".

Vettel said: "It feels unbelievable".

Kimi Raikkonen was the first to set a lap time, which was a 1:14.

Even Rosberg, who has retired from F1 and was conducting the interviews immediately after the race, offered his sympathy.

Also, the Italian team put down the first win in Monaco after 16 years, but for some media it is controversial.

"I think I managed it nicely and as professionally as I could". The 37-year-old started the race flawlessly and looked to be taking home a nice piece of silverware, but that was before Sebastian Vettel stepped up to the plate. Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, admitted Ferrari "dominated" today's race today. "It was a very tense race".

Mercedes knew they would always struggle to make up too much ground with Hamilton after starting 13th because of a messy qualifying session, including a series of driving errors and problems with tyres.
