Arsene Wenger set to sign new deal at Arsenal

Arsenal clinched their 13th FA Cup title on Saturday after defeating Chelsea 2-1

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was disappointed by Alexis Sanchez's opening goal for Arsenal in the FA Cup final, which the recently crowned English Premier League (EPL) champions lost 1-2, and said it should have been disallowed.

Yet Wenger will stay, and risks his already damaged legacy becoming further tarnished at a time when the Premier League has never been so competitive.

Wenger has been heavily criticised this season, with Arsenal fans calling for his resignation after their team failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

The Frenchman has been at the helm for nearly 21 years and, despite a section of supporters calling for him to depart this summer when his contract expires, he is now expected to further that stay after holding talks with Arsenal's board on Tuesday.

"He is set to sign a new two-year deal".

The 67-year-old Frenchman's current contract expires in the northern summer and despite the intense speculation about his future - driven by the failure to secure Champions League football - Wenger has stared down the fans who have mounted demonstrations against him and insisted he wants to stay. He said that they have a "good chance" to win their first title in 14 years if only they can improve their consistency.

"This is a strong group of players, and with some additions we can be even more successful", said the Frenchman.

Wenger made an impassioned plea to be kept on after the victory at Wembley, by urging Arsenal's board to watch a re-run of his seventh FA Cup win to banish any doubts about his suitability to lead the club forward.

"Two weeks ago I was on holiday - I didn't expect to play", he said.

Policies on healthcare, taxes, immigration, education and Arsene Wenger are probably the five most important points in any party's manifesto.

"I just want to do well for the club". I love to win, I love to build, I love to get people going and I love what I do.

"Our team had three centre backs out and he could have gone small but he went with the big fella and that is something I need to give him credit for because I haven't played a lot". Arsenal was completely dominant, something it was rarely able to claim over the past season.
