Ariana Grande planning benefit concert in Manchester

UK may have backed Manchester Bomber

On Wednesday, Grande's management team confirmed to USA TODAY that she was canceling shows through June 5 and resuming the tour in Paris on June 7. A further two people who were arrested earlier in the week have been released.

Both arrests were part of a massive security operation launched after 22 persons died and dozens more were wounded Monday night in a suicide bombing during a concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande.

"A significant amount of police action has taken place over the last 24 hours and there are now 11 suspects in custody", May said in a statement.

Mark Rowley, Britain's top counterterrorism police officer, said authorities had dismantled a "large part" of the network around bomber Salman Abedi.

Britain's terror threat assessment has been raised to "critical", the highest level, meaning an attack is considered imminent.

Police have tracked Abedi's movements in the days before the bombing and say he traveled from Libya through Turkey and Germany on three flights to arrive at Manchester.

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said it was the "responsibility" of governments to minimise the risk of terror by giving police the funding they need, after cuts made while Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May served as interior minister. Mohammed El-Hudarey, a friend of the landlord, said after Abedi moved out about six weeks ago there was a strong smell of chemicals and debris including metal rods and cut-up fabric.

More than 1,000 armed police are on standby as major events including the FA Cup Final on Saturday evening and the Premiership Rugby Final are expected to draw tens of thousands of people.

Before kickoff, Prince William laid a wreath in memory of the victims alongside Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. "So that is what it will continue to do for us", she said.

Manchester slowly returned to normal, though the damaged arena and adjacent Victoria train station remained closed.

In attacking the concert, the bomber targeted an audience full of teenagers and 'tweens - Grande fans who call themselves "Arianators".

"Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before", she wrote.
