Girl, 8, Banned From Soccer Game For Looking Like Boy

Abby Wambach speaks up for 8-year-old girl banned from tournament for looking 'like a boy'

She told the local NBC affiliate, "When my hair starts to grow I cut it short because I've always had short hair".

According to WOWT, Hernandez, who plays on an 11-year-old team at 8 years old, was told by tournament organizers that her team couldn't continue because she looked "like a boy".

"It's what she likes".

Mili's father Gerardo Hernandez said his daughter "was in shock".

That last point became an issue this weekend when Mili's all-girl team was disqualified from a soccer tournament in Springfield, Nebraska.

Mili says the incident won't stop her from playing soccer with another club but she certainly doesn't think the decision is fair. "Why they want to tell my girl looks like a boy?" The family showed them Mili's insurance card, which clearly identified her as female.

Springfield Soccer Club organizers declined to comment to WOWT, but said that Mili's family can challenge the disqualification with the Nebraska State Soccer Association. "So I didn't like my hair long".

Mili said she felt she was treated unfairly. "They don't have a reason to kick the whole club out", Mili said. However, before taking the field on Sunday, Mili and her team were suddenly disqualified.

"Since I can't play here, there's other tournaments that I can play", Mili said. Milly is a great player and that can not be because she is simply a talented female athlete it has to be because she is possibly a boy and cheating.

"They didn't want to listen", said her brother, Cruz Hernandez. By Monday she was back to dribbling a soccer ball and obsessing about her favorite team, Guadalajara's Chivas. A separate form accurately listed her as a girl, he said, but the uncertainty was enough for someone to complain Cachorros had a boy on their roster.
