Riaz injured himself during the opening game of Pakistan's Champions Trophy 2017 against India at Edgbaston.

Left-arm seamer Rumman Raees has been named in the Pakistan squad as a replacement for injured fast bowler Wahab Riaz for the rest of the ongoing Champions Trophy one-day worldwide tournament.

Pakistan sent an official request to the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Technical Committee to allow them to replace the veteran left-armer and after approval from Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan, Raees was asked to join the team in England. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Raees said: "It is a great opportunity for me to make my mark in the team".

"A scan has confirmed that Wahab Riaz suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an eversion injury mechanism whilst bowling during the India vs Pakistan match on June 4th", said a statement from the PCB on Monday.

Rumman last played for Pakistan in April this year against West Indies; he played only one match and took one wicket.

Rumman Raees has never played an ODI for Pakistan.

Wahab's ankle injury had put a stop to the most expensive spell in Champions Trophy cricket on Sunday, and it was confirmed the following day that it would keep him away from cricket for a further two weeks. He has 64 wickets at 25.18 from 42 List A appearances, and 123 first-class wickets, with career-best figures of 7-31.

If selected, Raees will take part in Pakistan's remaining two group games against South Africa and Sri Lanka, which Pakistan will need to win to progress through to the semi-final.
