Child found in Illinois garage may have been killed in 2013

Coroner Nevada woman says child's body in Illinois garage

The dead child was found in the detached garage of a dilapidated, boarded-up home in Centreville, an impoverished community just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Department said Jason Quate's wife told police on Monday that she had been sex trafficked by him for the last two years.

Police believe the remains of a child found in the garage of a vacant IL home had been there four years.

Now authorities in St. Clair County are trying to determine whether a 7-year-old child whose body was found decomposed inside a garage Tuesday was the victim of a homicide or natural death. Dye said a forensic anthropologist is investigating and a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Police say the woman told them Quate was responsible for the death of her 6-year old child in 2015 and told instigators the body could be found in the garage of a Centreville, IL home on Russell Ave. "I've begged her to get a regular job", Quate said. A Las Vegas woman told investigators Tuesday that her dead child had been in a southern IL home for two years, and authorities later found human remains in the vacant house, according to authorities. Investigators believe the child was killed in 2013. Detectives believe that is most likely where the young girl was killed.

The woman's husband, Jason Quate, 34, is jailed in Las Vegas on charges of sex trafficking and living off the earnings of a prostitute.

The woman told police that she and Quate met in IL but later moved to Las Vegas. Real estate records obtained by The Associated Press show Quate lived in the Belleville home that was being examined.

Las Vegas police said the two surviving girls were kept inside virtually all the time and didn't attend school. She said officers met to discuss the "extremely disturbing" child death case Tuesday, but would not give details. He's jailed in Las Vegas.

The two daughters had a "significant amount of scars and bruises on their bodies", Spencer said in an interview Thursday. They are in protective custody. He told the Post-Dispatch that he had lied to the TV station and that his wife had come up with the adoption story after their daughter died.

Quate said his wife was "not a good mother" and never told her daughters she loved them. Neighbors said they didn't have a clue as to what was happening in the home.
