Australia denied Champions Trophy against Bangladesh

The New Zealand and Australian cricket teams abandoned the Champion Trophy match due to rainfall.

Chasing a moderate target of 183 runs, Australia were cruising at 83 for one from 16 overs. The Kiwis looked on course for a victory after putting up a big score on the board and then leaving the opposition batsmen in trouble, before rain intervened and saved the Australia's blushes.

Having been rescued by the rain last week, London's inclement weather turned the tables on Australia and left them needing to win their last Group A match to avoid going out.

Australia will have to put up a better show since Bangladesh are no more the Asian minnows and in white ball cricket, they have emerged as a strong force.

The Bangladesh batsmen didn't look too rusty against England in the opening game of CT 2017, but, in the end, the home team's batting power proved to be too much for them. Besides, rain has been a villain so far in the tournament, as a few washed-out matches have complicated the equation. The umpires finally called off the match at 9:15pm local time (0145 hrs IST). While Kohli achieved the milestone in 2013 against England in Ranchi, Gordon Greenidge, who took 96 innings to the said run-mark, rounds off the top 5 on this list.

Warner is the fastest Australian to reach the landmark and the third fastest overall, after South Africa's Hashim Amla and West Indies legend Viv Richards.

The outcome was harsh on Australia who bowled superbly to dismiss the world No.6 team inside 44 overs with Mitchell Starc taking 4-29. His hat-trick ball marginally missed Mustafizur Rahman's off stump, but he did return in his next over to bowl Mehedi Hasan.

England chased down over 300 easily against Bangladesh last week at The Oval, losing two wickets in the process and Warner said he expects another good batting wicket. To be specific, the pace attack of Australia was poor.

"The New Zealand game (at Edgbaston) was my first hit-out for three months, and it was disappointing not to get the warm-up games under my belt with a bit of weather around".

Imrul Kayes, moved down to No 3, didn't last long, tamely chipping Pat Cummins to Aaron Finch at cover to depart for six, and it was 53 for three when Mushfiqur Rahim played round a full-length delivery from medium-pacer Moises Henriques. Joe Root was a classy player and he remains unbeaten 133-run knock.

In the next over, Iqbal reached to his 37th fifty in his 171st ODI with a single off Travis Head.

Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan attempted to steady the boat, adding 69 runs between them.

Australia also have 2 points, but with only a game to spare.

Zampa followed his opening wicket maiden by bowling Mahmudullah via a thick inside edge.
