Field hockey - Must-win for Scotland against Canada

Overall records

India thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan 7-1 in the Hockey World League Semi-Final 2017 to earn their third straight win in the tournament on Sunday. This was India's third consecutive victory and it sealed a place for them in the quarter-finals of the Hockey World League Semi-Final, here on Sunday.

It means Canada have opened their account with a win, while Pakistan failed to bounce back from an opening 4-0 loss to The Netherlands yesterday.

Akashdeep got into goal-scoring action in the 47th minute when he applied the finishing touch to a series of wall-passes with Sardar Singh down the centre.

In Pool B, Olympic champions Argentina made it two victories from two thanks to a 5-2 win over Malaysia. Pardeep Mor (49th) too contributed a goal for India. However, Tasawwar Abbas' wonderful ball found Bhutta unmarked in the middle of the circle who sounded the board for Pakistan's first goal of the tournament. India endured a poor start in reply, losing wickets at regular intervals and slumping to a paltry score of 158 all out in 30.3 overs, with Hardik Pandya the only Indian offering some resistance. The effort resulted in winning a penalty corner in the opening minute of the match.

Amidst all the anger and disappointment, India did beat Pakistan last night but not in cricket, it was in Hockey.

"We scored some great goals and when we score the type of goals that we did today, that is what makes a coach happy". India, having scored the opening goal, seemed to ease their nerves and they played smooth and fluent hockey thereafter. Harmanpreet completed his double with a well-placed elbow-high penalty corner flick into the right corner of the goal in the 33rd minute.

This is not the first time that a hockey team player has expressed displeasure and sadness at the lives lost in the valley.

What time is the World Hockey League match between India and Netherlands? They remained the better side nearly throughout the first quarter.

"I wish our hockey team all the best".

Pakistan, on the other hand, are at the bottom of the pool after losing all three matches they have played so far.
