Justin Gilbert suspended by National Football League for one year

Gilbert, who is now a free agent, was selected out of Oklahoma State by the Browns with the No. 8 overall pick in 2014.

The former Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback has been suspended for one year by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Gilbert, a standout defensive back for Oklahoma State, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, but struggled to make his mark. He was a problem in the locker room that season, then missed time in 2015 after suffering a concussion, and Cleveland traded Gilbert to Pittsburgh prior to last season.

Much like the former Heisman Trophy victor, Gilbert's career in Cleveland was a massive disappointment that never got off the ground thanks to a lack of maturity and desire to improve. There's no word on which policy Gilbert violated to draw that suspension, but the answer probably won't do much to change anything but a line on Gilbert's Wikipedia page.

Gilbert has 42 tackles and one interception during his three-year National Football League career.

The Steelers released Gilbert in February and he remains a free agent.
