Unmoored? Donald Trump defends Twitter attacks

Democratic Bill Lays the Groundwork to Remove Trump From Office

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R) joined the debate Thursday over comments made on Twitter by President Donald Trump about MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski.

Reveling in the added attention brought on by their little "spat" with President Donald Trump, MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said on Friday's show the White House tried to blackmail them into giving positive coverage of the president.

Trump's comments came after 24 states refused to hand over voter data to a White House charged with investigating his false claims that millions of illegal votes cost him popular vote in the presidential election. "I was FaceTiming all my friends, telling them to get it done, that it wasn't so bad".

At the same time, on other networks, Trump aides blamed Scarborough and Brzezinski for "exhibiting what they said was anti-Trump bias and animosity", CNN reported.

"At no time did we threaten either Joe or Mika or their children in connection with our reporting on the story".

Appearing to reference his daughter Ivanka Trump's self-description as an "advocate for the education and empowerment of women", they went on: "It would be the height of hypocrisy to claim the mantle of women's empowerment while allowing a family member to continue such abusive conduct".

Though Trump keeps saying Morning Joe is low-rated, that's actually not true. Trump's tweet came a day after a report by Page Six that CNN "flew into a panic on Friday after it accidentally aired a fake National Enquirer cover". "What is wrong with you?"

Earlier in the month, Spicer confirmed that the president's tweets were to be considered official statements. Mr Trump tweeted during Friday morning's broadcast, "Watched low rated @Morning_Joe for first time in long time. I said no!" the tweets read.

Brzezinski and Scarborough disputed Trump's claim that they asked to join him at Mar-a-Lago three nights in a row, calling the president's version of the story "false" and "laughable".

"First of all", Colbert continued, "someone bleeding badly at your door and you say "no"? We should be working to empower women".

Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers condemned Trump's tweets, and some have urged him to stop tweeting altogether.
