Mother in custody after four children and man found 'stabbed to death'

Mom arrested after 4 kids and dad found stabbed to death in home

Police responding to reports of a stabbing say they've found four young children and a man dead inside a home in an Atlanta suburb.

The mother of the children is now in police custody, while a fifth child is recovering in a hospital.

The ages of all of the children are unknown and the motive is also not known.

"She said her dad passed away months ago, she was in depression and we go to her house and pray sometimes for her dad", neighbor Letty Perez told WSB-TV.

"This is a horrendous crime", says Corporal Michele Pihera of the Gwinnett County Police Department. No charges have been announced.

"What prompts a person to take the life of such innocent children and her spouse is something we may never understand", Pihera said.

Authorities did not release any information about the child who survived the apparent attack, and a hospital spokeswoman said she could not comment.

Cpl Pihera said the mother was speaking Spanish in the 911 call, which initially made it hard for operators to communicate with her.

Gwinnett County police arrived on the scene in Emory Lane, Loganville, Georgia, early Thursday morning.

Crime scene tape surrounded the home and parts of the yard in the Loganville area, about 30 miles (48 kilometres) east of Atlanta. While the children spoke English as a second language, he said, they were fluent.
