Jaguars' Dante Fowler Jr. arrested on misdemeanor battery charges

Jaguars star DE Dante Fowler was arrested for battery after allegedly roughing up a man Tuesday night in Florida. The man reportedly criticized Fowler's driving, and Fowler got out of his auto, hit the man, and stepped on his glasses.

The police report said Fowler showed no evidence of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He then stepped on them, took the victim's grocery bag and threw it in the lake.

Fowler, 22, was arrested at 9:02 p.m. and released at 1:43 a.m. Wednesday on a bond of $650.

Fowler is charged with simple battery and criminal mischief.

The Jaguars released a statement addressing the arrest. saying they were aware of the situation, and have been in contact with Fowler. "No further comment will be made at this time". He missed his entire rookie year due to a torn ACL. Fowler is scheduled to report to training camp next week. He was able to recover in time for the start of the 2016 season and finished the year with 32 combined tackles and 4.0 sacks.

Fowler, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is entering his third season with the Jaguars.

The NFL will nearly certainly be looking into this matter further to find out what discipline, if any, should be imposed on the 22-year-old Fowler.
