Women Make Up ONLY One Third Of BBC's Top Earning Talent

Household names Graham Norton and Fiona Bruce

Tennis legend John McEnroe, a presenter and commentator on the BBC's Wimbledon team, was paid £150,000 to £199,999 but Martina Navratilova did not make the list.

He argued that the BBC had reduced talent salaries by 25 percent in the past four years and said publishing the list was a "bad idea" because it could tempt other companies to poach talent.

Ruth Gamble, Partner at BDBF lawyers, added: "If the BBC's list of salaries shows that a female presenter on a primetime show is being paid less than a male presenter on the same show or a similar one, they have the makings of a good sex discrimination or equal pay claim".

Only a third of the top earners are women.

Former Top Gear host Chris Evans was revealed to be the highest-paid person, earning over 2.2 million, while presenter Claudia Winkleman was named as the top female earner, pocketing more than 450,000.

'This whole BBC salary exposure business is an absolute outrage... Now where did I put my tin helmet?

He said: "The NUJ represents a vast number of talented, underpaid and badly resourced members within the BBC".

TODAY, the BBC has released a dossier disclosing the wages of its highest earners.

Compare this to the highest earning man, Chris Evans, who takes home around £2.5 million for hosting the Radio 2 breakfast show and "Top Gear" previous year.

More recently, however, Mohammad has been presenting rugby union, snooker and Saturday's Final Score programme, as well as being part of the BBC's Rio 2016 coverage and filling in on Match of the Day.

He stressed "the need to go further and faster on issues of gender and diversity", but did say that company was "pushing....faster than any other major broadcaster".

Thankfully Mishal Husain, a news presenter for BBC, actually had the chance to interview Hall about the pay report and she made it clear to him that hiring more women and then paying them the same as men were different goals.

After considerable pressure from the Government to increase the transparency on pay, the BBC has released its annual report revealing how much its stars are actually paid.

Evans' comments mirror those he made a year ago when the prospect of publishing the names and pay brackets of all of BBC talent earning over £150,000 was first mooted. "I have said that by 2020 we will have equality between men and women on air and we will have the pay gap sorted out".

He said: "The BBC has published details of on-screen talent, which you may be surprised to know includes me - as on-screen talent". "They help make the BBC what it is", he told the Guardian.

The list does not distinguish between people who are paid for doing multiple jobs within the BBC and those who are paid for just one. Is it where we want to be? No.

Asked about the gender pay gap, with two thirds of the top earners expected to be men, he said: "I think this the beginning of redress I would imagine".
