Despite job growth, Illinois' unemployment rate rises

Illinois unemployment rate up slightly despite job growth

Colorado's unemployment rate in June stayed at 2.3 percent for the third straight month, maintaining its record low - and more than a percentage point lower than it was in June 2016- as private-sector jobs increased by 6,100 positions and government jobs by 400.

The sector that saw the most growth between May and June was leisure and hospitality which added 2,900 jobs.

In June, the statewide rate was 4.9 percent, 4.5 percent for the nation as a whole.

EDD says occupations with the most job ads in Sacramento last month were: registered nurses, truck drivers and retail salespersons. That's 12,000 more than the month before, but the labor force total also grew by a large amount.

The bureau of labor statistics estimates the number of unemployed people in the IL workforce increased by 1.2 percent last month. The state's unemployment rate has remained steady the past three months and has been the lowest in the country for four consecutive months, according to Gedney. Previous year in June, the rate was 3.9 percent.

"Right now, the over-the-year growth isn't negative", he said.

Kentucky officials say the state's unemployment rate rose slightly in June.

Gedney, however, questioned the construction employment estimates for June, saying he didn't think those moved lower. Other elevated rates were 6.7 percent in Imperial Beach and 6.3 percent within El Cajon's city limits.

In June, 67,800 San Diegans were without jobs in a civilian labor force of 1.56 million people, according to agency data. IWD also says job growth this year has been weak in Iowa, but the service, manufacturing, and financial services industries added jobs.

Last month's rate was up from May's rate of 4.1 percent.
