Swiss Police Take Manhunt For Homeless Chainsaw Attacker International

Wrousis is accused of attacking two employees of a health insurance company in their office in Schaffhausen's old town on Monday morning

Police said they do not believe Monday's attack in the historic town of Schaffhausen is terrorism related, but warned the public that the man at large is "dangerous".

Wrousis is accused of attacking two employees of a health insurance company at their office in Schaffhausen's old town.

An attack by a man armed with a chainsaw in the Swiss town of Schaffhausen has left five people injured, two seriously, according to police. "But we can not say exactly what the motive was".

In the aftermath of the attack, Swiss media reported that two of those injured in the incident were employees of an insurance company.

The perpetrator had fled by the time police arrived.

Despite relatively low crime rates, Switzerland has one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in the world and police said it was likely that the suspect was carrying weapons.

The suspect has a health insurance policy with the company, she said.

Police described Wrousis as risky, aggressive and mentally unstable.

Prosecutor Peter Sticher said Wrousis has two previous convictions for offenses against weapons laws, one from 2014 and 2016.

Schaffhausen, a town of about 36,000 people north of Zurich, is near the Swiss-German border.

Wrousis was previously registered as living in Graubuenden canton, in Switzerland's southeast. They have undergone surgery, she said, and their lives are no longer at risk.

Police released old photos of Wrousis standing among trees in a green T-shirt and black jeans.

Police described Wrousis as a 6-foot-2 loner with an unkempt appearance who mainly lives in forests but who visits populated areas.

Franz Wrousis, the alleged attacker.

A picture taken just before the attack shows him wearing a green jacket and black pants and carrying a black bag thought to contain the chainsaw. Police found a minivan he was believed to have been driving shortly after the attack, and searched the region near the German border with helicopters and sniffer dogs.
