Trump Calls Obamacare "Death", Tells GOP To Act

Psychiatry group tells members they can defy 'Goldwater rule' and comment on Trump's mental health

US President Donald Trump has spent weeks warning Republicans to get on board with his effort to overhaul his successor's health care reforms.

The Republican Senator made a triumphant return to the Senate on Tuesday, where he cast the tie-making vote on a procedural step in advancing the GOP's plans to repeal and replace Obamacare.

"It's impossible to determine the final product of the health care bill coming out of the Senate...but, obviously my hope is that the Senate gets health care done", Ryan said.

The approach was not flying with some Republicans. All we have seen are bills which the CBO says are going to knock millions of people off their insurance.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, Collins said of the Senate's vote, "This seems to be a moving target and I don't know what we're proceeding to vote on".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing for a vote on repealing Obamacare and, maybe, replacing it with a GOP alternative.

On Monday, Trump took to his bully pulpit and demanded his party get in line. "Any senator who votes against starting debate is telling America that you are fine with the Obamacare nightmare, which is what it is".

Trump has repeatedly grilled fellow Republicans for not following through on their - and his - campaign pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare. We can now deliver grt healthcare to all Americans! "You can not campaign on something for seven years and not do something", he said, referring to yearslong GOP promises to repeal and replace Obamacare.

But Republicans can only afford to lose two votes.

None of that would happen if senators vote against the motion to proceed, and at the moment, Mr. McConnell still appears short of the votes.

Trump tweeted that he was ready to sign any of the options that reach his desk. John McCain, R-Ariz., is expected to return to the Senate today.

Several other Republicans have also expressed concerns, but have not announced how they will vote.

McCain was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

"Tomorrow, the Senate will vote on whether to allow this urgently needed bill to come to the Senate floor for debate".

The Senate could end up with a version of a replacement plan for Obamacare or the GOP can go the repeal-only route. Sen.

Gardner previously criticized the lack of public hearings, but it's unclear what he has done or said behind closed doors to compel his colleagues to hold them. Although that is far less ambitious than previous legislation, such a move would still have a substantial impact on the individual marketplace for insurance.
