Ezra Cohen-Watnick Dismissal From NSC Suggests McMaster Calls The Shots

Ezra Cohen-Watnick Fired From National Security Council

The official said H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, "appreciates the good work" that Cohen-Watnick accomplished in the intelligence division of the NSC, but "has determined that, at this time, a different set of experiences is best-suited to carrying that work forward".

Apparently, new White House chief of staff John Kelly is unable to stop the war, or is siding with McMaster against Bannon. White House officials have said the president has yet to decide on any new moves.

Top Trump advisers Steven Bannon and Jared Kushner have reportedly protected Cohen-Watnick so far.

But according to the Times, Kushner changed his position this week, and on Wednesday the White House announced Cohen-Watnick's resignation.

In the past, McMaster has refused to fire the Obama holdovers.

When Flynn was forced to resign, having reportedly misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Russian officials, the new national-security adviser, General H.R. McMaster, promptly began clearing out Flynn's people, among them Dave Cattler, the deputy assistant to the president for regional affairs, Adam Lovinger, a strategic affairs analyst on loan from the Pentagon, and K.T. McFarland, Flynn's deputy.

The siege against the general comes in response to McMaster's clean-up of the National Security Council, which has been detailed in reports this week, and started with news of the firing of Rich Higgins.

Michael Flynn to serve as the senior director for intelligence programs at the National Security Council, was sacked on Wednesday afternoon, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The Trump White House resembles an episode of Game of Thrones more and more every day.

Cohen-Watnick had been a favored aide to McMaster's predecessor, Michael Flynn, and like other recently sidelined council members was a major hawk on Iran, having advocated using the USA intelligence community to impose regime change. Cohen-Watnick and Harvey were hired by McMaster's ousted predecessor, Michael Flynn. Last week, McMaster removed Derek Harvey, the top Middle East adviser on the NSC, from his post. The White House Counsel's job is to protect and look after the legal interests of the President.

The statement said that Cohen-Watnick would take on another position in the administration.

That is according to Bloomberg View's Eli Lake, who first broke the story in early April that Rice, who served under President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017, tried to "unmask" Trump associates mentioned by foreign officials in conversations picked up as part of the US' intelligence-gathering operations.
