Wang made the announcement during the Nepal-China Deputy Prime Minister-level meeting he jointly chaired with Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar. PLA soldiers started hurling stones at the Indian soldiers after they found their path blocked by Indian soldiers. The Indian soldiers had formed human chain to block Chinese infiltration. Indian media said the Chinese army had this year declined to participate in ceremonial meetings usually held to mark Independence Day on Tuesday.

After almost 30 minutes of facing off, the two sides retreated to their positions, he said.

The ongoing military standoff between India and China forces in a disputed mountain area near Bhutan remains unresolved, but the rising tensions between the two countries saw an entirely separate skirmish break out some 1,000 miles away in the northwest, along the Kashmir border.

The United States has said that it wants India and China to sit down and have a direct dialogue to resolve their issues.

The two nuclear-armed neighbours fought a brief war in 1962 in India's border state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The stand-off began in June when Chinese soldiers tried to unilaterally change the status quo in the strategically important Doklam region of Bhutan by building a road in the area. "There was some stone pelting from the Chinese side but the situation was quickly brought under control", he told AFP on condition of anonymity.

An article in The Global Times, part of the ruling Communist Party's publication group, urged Chinese firms to "reconsider the risks" of investing in India and warned New Delhi to be "prepared for the possible consequences for its ill-considered action". Neither side appears to have fired a shot during this, but brawls were reported. Prasad is understood to have asked ministry officials to make an assessment of India's vulnerability when it comes to goods from China. The part held by China is contiguous to Tibet.
