Henrik Stenson closed with 64 to win at Wyndham

Henrik Stenson entered the final round of the 2017 Wyndham Championship with a one-stroke lead and finished it with a one-stroke victory.

This was the last tournament of the regular season before the playoffs, so several golfers needed good finishes to move into the top 125 in points to qualify for the playoff events. "Luckily, I managed to put my foot down and make a couple of birdies coming home".

North Carolina native Simpson, the victor here in 2011, followed up Thursday's 63 with a 64, recording eight birdies but dropping shots on the eighth and ninth holes. Johnson Wagner was 14 under after a 65. "I did enough good things to produce that 22-under and yeah, pick up that momentum and confidence that a win gives you".

After making just two cuts from 27 events and earning only $US24,650, two-time tour victor Bowditch's tie for 64th at Wyndham left him well outside the top-200 who make the Web finals.

Crane loved the shot the second he made contact. 17 and 18 were answered by Stenson, who curled in a 10-footer on No. 16 and added a 27-foot make from across the green on No. 17 that provided the final margin.

Low scores and tight leaderboards once again were the norm at Sedgefield.

"I just got to keep it going on the back-9 tomorrow and like I did - or two years ago and get off to a hot start and keep it going".

He was steady on the front nine with three birdies and six pars and then caught fire with birdies on 15, 17 and 18. The late charge began at the par-4 13th, where he rolled in a six-footer for birdie and rode the momentum all the way into the clubhouse. Yardage: 7,130. Par: 70. Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., was 6 under and David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., was 2 under. He birdied No. 13 before three straight birdies on 15, 16 and 17, which set the stage for his final par putt to end his dramatic charge into the clubhouse for the win.

Otaegui was thrilled to win his first European Tour title.

It was the first victory for the 42-year-old from Sweden since winning last year's British Open in a shootout with Phil Mickelson.

Armour, the second-round co-leader, appeared to drop out of contention with Saturday's 72, but he played the first eight holes of the final round at 4 under to pull within two strokes with plenty of golf to play.

"It's amusing how it goes", Stenson said.

Schniederjans had birdies on Nos.

"I got to 16 and hit a lovely shot,"Crane said".
