HTC Vive Price Permanently Dropped to $599

Vive 599

Many also regard it as the most impressive VR system, although Facebook's Oculus Rift is similarly advanced.

HTC has just announced a significant drop in price for its Vive virtual reality headset, with the equipment now retailing at £599 in the United Kingdom and $599 in the US.

The Rift's bundle will offer the headset, two sensors, a pair of Touch controllers, cables, and six free VR experiences and games. You'll also get a free copy of Tilt Brush, Everest VR and Richie's Plank Experience. Effective immediately, HTC is reducing the price of the Vive to $599.

It's worth noting, however, that this deal doesn't come with the Deluxe Audio Strap though, so you'll need to pay extra to get that little bit of comfort.

It maybe cheaper but PlayStation VR doesn't offer the same level of immersion as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

HTC has announced that it has changed the advised retail price for the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. For HTC, the task of defending a price tag double its competitor's has been one in honing its brand messaging in the face of a massive price differential. Although this is quite a large price decrease, as $200 could net someone a PS4 or XBox One in some areas, does this make the technology a viable option for the everyday consumer?

HTC Vive is now the least popular of the three mainstream virtual reality headsets, much of which is due to its previous price point of $799 where it sat uncomfortably outside affordability for most consumers.

Virtual reality as we know it today burst onto the scene in 2012 with a Kickstarter campaign for the Oculus Rift. The company says that it will continue its work with partners such as Google, Apple, Intel, UPS, Volkswagen, SalesForce and others. "We're focused on delivering both great value together with the best VR experience on the market and we're excited to lead the way in bringing VR to the mainstream".
