The Patriots gave Donald Trump his own Super Bowl ring

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady calls a play during the first half of an NFL football preseason game against the Houston Texans Saturday Aug. 19 2017 in Houston

The New England Patriots visited the White House in April after winning the Super Bowl in February.

The Patriots made a decision to give Trump a ring because they were to the first championship team to visit the White House after Trump had taken office.

It is a tradition for a championship sports team to present the President of the United States with a ceremonial jersey and some other trinkets when visiting the White House. Kraft wanted to do something more for the president and someone he calls a close friend.

Kraft only has four of his five Super Bowl rings after he showed Putin the ring from the Patriots third Super Bowl victory.

Not only does the team open the season Thursday night, September 7 against the Chiefs where the fifth Super Bowl banner will be raised, there will also be a week of original Patriots programming, including a special Do Your Job Part 2.

After the game, Trump unsurprisingly took to Twitter to congratulate the Super Bowl LI champions, who became the first team to visit him in the White House just two months after the epic comeback. The price for each ring has not been announced, but the National Football League covers the cost of 150 rings for each Super Bowl-winning team. A series of quotes enscribed on the arbor includes: "UNEQUIVOCALLY THE SWEETEST", "WE ARE ALL PATRIOTS" and "GREATEST COMEBACK EVER", referencing the team's dramatic comeback from 25 points down late in the third quarter.

The ring is bejeweled with 280 diamonds, with white gold weighing in at 10 karats, and is the same type awarded to players and staff on the championship team.

The ring presentation comes as no surprise since Trump and Kraft have been friends for years. He was also golf buddies with Tom Brady.
