The Bachelor's Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi Call Off Their Engagement

Nick Viall Vanessa Grimaldi Split

The former couple confirmed the news in a joint statement to E!

"Nick and Vanessa have wanted to end this for a while now but was trying to figure out the right timing", a source told E!

"We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairy-tale ending we hoped for", the statement goes on.

Sadly, "Bachelor" star Nick Viall and his fiancee Vanessa Grimaldi have called it quits five months after their romantic proposal aired on national television.

"We will continue to be there for each other no matter what", they added.

Nick even admitted on The Bachelor that the combination of their personalities could be a match made in heaven or a total disaster because they'd butt heads frequently.

The last time a successful couple came out of The Bachelor was in season 17 with Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici who are now married with a child.

It was "very much a real relationship", a third source close to Nick explained, "and there wasn't a straw that broke the camel's back". For many fans of Bachelor Nation, this split comes as no surprise but it's still sad to see them separate.

For the record SIX "Bachelorette" couples remain together out of 13 seasons, while "The Bachelor" has a dismal TWO couples still standing out of 21 seasons, with one being a bit controversial.

"Nick wants to find someone to be with and so does Vanessa".

Aw. Really, though, this is sad, and I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make, but at least they're supporting each other in what seems to be a mutual decision to end their relationship.

Shortly after Vanessa finished battling 29 other women to win Nick's heart, she moved to Los Angeles, but Nick got super-busy being a contestant on Season 24 of "Dancing with the Stars".
