British PM says China should increase pressure on North Korea

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Akie Abe attended dinner with US President Donald Trump his wife Melania and

Theresa May has called on China to "do everything it can" to put more pressure on North Korea to stop "illegal" and "outrageous" missile tests.

May arrived in Japan on Wednesday on a three-day official visit to the country, marked by the escalated North Korean threat. "We want to continue to bring pressure on North Korea to ensure that they desist this action". They are significant actions of provocation. "We would encourage China to do everything it can to bring pressure on North Korea to stop this".

She believes that Chinese pressure would be "the best way" of influencing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. "But crucially, we see China as being the key in this", Theresa May added. Kim Jong Un's regime first threatened to attack the U.S. island territory after President Donald Trump threatened to respond to North Korea's threats with "fire and fury".

May arrived in Osaka in western Japan on Wednesday afternoon, marking her first visit to Japan since she became prime minister in July a year ago. Last week, Japan expanded its own sanctions against the North, after a similar USA move.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that the missile flew over Japan's northern island of Hokkaido before falling into the Pacific Ocean 1,180 km east of the island.

May described Japan as "the UK's closest security partner in Asia" and a "like-minded partner".

The two sides also pledged to cooperate further in security area.

She will try to get an agreement from her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, for a bilateral deal that can follow Brexit. She said she would ask him to push ahead with a wide-ranging EU-Japan trade deal, with the idea it could then be used as a model for a separate deal with the UK.

Japanese officials have signalled that there will be little progress on post-Brexit trade talks but rather more questions over Mrs May's stance on Brexit. We want the European Union deal to be concluded swiftly. The Council, which was created at the end of 2013, consists of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and key ministers.

She will attempt to reassure Japanese businesses that the United Kingdom will not fall off a cliff edge when it quits the EU. Several Japanese financial institutions have made a decision to set up hubs in Frankfurt and Amsterdam to protect themselves from Brexit.

"Prime Minister Abe is only saying the same as senior USA negotiators: get your house in order with the EU".
