Takeaways from USC vs. Western Michigan

USC Football: Trojans on upset alert against Western Michigan Broncos

USC put together a very cool moment late in their victory over Western Michigan on Saturday.

USC freshman running back Stephen Carr, a former 5-star recruit, powered his way into the end zone to give the Trojans a 28-21 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Long-snapper Jake Olson, who was born with retinoblastoma (a cancer of the retina) and had to have both of his eyes surgically removed by the age of 12, made his first career appearance for the Trojans, coming into the game to snap for the extra point. Carr added 69 yards and two scores on his seven carries. This was his first time getting game action.

Jones totaled 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, nearly nine yards per clip. After Jones's opening punch, Western Michigan notched two consecutive scores to grab a 14-7 lead, marching 59 and 81 yards in the process. If Western Michigan can easily replace these players, then they will have a bright season. Defensively, Western Michigan football gave up 353.6 total yards, 200.1 in passing and 153.6 in rushing per game.

The Trojans pulled ahead for the first time since 7-0 on a 1-yard Carr run, but Western Michigan immediately responded when Darius Phillips went goal line to goal line on the ensuing kickoff. Marvin Tell III provided the exclamation point with a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:13 left to play.

Pac-12 favorite USC is on serious upset watch at home against defending MAC champion Western Michigan.
