Russia's Putin calls for talks with North Korea

Australians in Asia warned about North Korea

China's remarks come after the South Korea Defence Ministry announced it would carry out the temporary deployment of launching vehicles at 2am tomorrow (September 7) at its site in Seongju, south of Seoul.

The ministry said four launchers for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) antimissile system will be placed in the Seongju base to counter the mounting North Korean nuclear and missile threats. "THAAD is a missile defense system for the theater of operations".

Russia, alongside China, also criticized the increase in South Korea's joint military activities with Washington as a danger to the peace and stability of the region.

On Sunday, after North Korea's sixth and most powerful nuclear test, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticize South Korea's government for what he called its "talk of appeasement with North Korea".

Meanwhile, hundreds of local residents and activists are gathered near the US base protesting the deployment.

Russian Federation earlier condemned North Korea's latest nuclear test as "provocative", but said it does not support the idea of slapping North Korea with more sanctions.

United Nations U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley addresses a U.N. Security Council meeting on North Korea, Monday Sept. 4, 2017 at U.N. headquarters. Components of the Thaad battery arrived at the US military's Osan Air Base on March 7 and a radar system and two launchers were installed on a former golf course in Seongju on April 26 - less than two weeks before the May 9 presidential election that brought Moon Jae-in to power.

China and Russian Federation have opposed the THAAD deployment - viewing it as aimed at bolstering Washington's military presence in the region. He said it "offers a genuine way to defuse the tensions and a step-by-step settlement". The office said Putin told Moon that North Korea's nuclear and missile programs threatening worldwide peace and security, but emphasized finding a diplomatic solution.
