'It' Kills It at the Box Office With Massive Opening Weekend

Recently on his Twitter, Stephen King began proving some of the most biggest minds of the macabre are also the nicest.

The adaptation of Stephen King's 1986 novel broke several box office records as it opened to a massive $117.2 million in the US and Canada, according to studio estimates.

It shattered numerous records, including landing the biggest start ever for a horror film, and for a Steven King adaptation.

The kids' acting is top-notch and their dialogue is also amazingly true to life, although the scribbler's rely WAY too much on the "F" word.

It has set the opening weekend record for any movie released in the U.S. between Labor Day and November and the biggest debut ever for a horror movie - putting Paranormal Activity in second place and The Conjuring in third.

It is the second-biggest opening for an R-rated film behind Deadpool's three-day debut of $132.4 million, while its massive $51 million Friday actually beat Deadpool's $47 million.

Domestically It took in $117.2m, making it the third biggest opening for a film this year behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 ($146.2m) and Beauty and the Beast ($174.8m).

Audience scores are as high as they get for the horror genre so positive word-of-mouth will lead to plenty of more business ahead.

The Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas, was hosting a clown-only screening of the Andres Muschietti-directed film - and many others just chose to take matters into their own hands.

The movie's success over the weekend was spectacular considering the project cost only $35 million to produce. Wind River dropped 49% to an estimated $3.2M while the toon Leap! fell 48% to an estimated $2.5M. "It" earned an 86 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although "It" has just been released, plans for a second film are already underway. The worldwide sum hit $495.3M while the global gross rose to $823M passing the $816.3M of Wonder Woman in the process. Warner Bros. hopes to release the sequel in the fall of 2019. Flying past $900M in the end seems very likely - a popular hangout for movies which include Iron Man.
