Bombshell: Trump Campaign Chief Reportedly Wiretapped Before and After Election

Paul Manafort was reportedly under surveillance by the FBI two separate times

Manafort is one of several close advisers who helped President Donald Trump win the 2016 election and who are now being investigated as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe of alleged Russian interference in the USA vote.

According to CNN, some of the intelligence obtained on Manafort included communications which drew investigators' concerns that he had "encouraged the Russians" to help with the campaign.

After agents took documents, copied computer files, and photographed expensive suits in Manafort's closet, Mueller, who is the special counsel in charge of the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe, warned Manafort that his prosecutors were planning to indict him, two of The Times' sources said.

Earlier reports suggesting that a court working under the auspices of the Foreign Intelligence Service Act (FISA) ordered wiretapping of Trump campaign officials seemed fully vindicated by the CNN bombshell, which reported that a FISA court authorized an order to spy on Manafort.

Sources say the second warrant was part of Federal Bureau of Investigation efforts to investigate suspected ties between Trump campaign associates and possible Russian operatives. Despite Manafort resigning as Trump's campaign manager in August 2016 due to reports about his connections to the Vladimir Putin regime, the two men remained in touch even after Trump was elected president.

While the exact timeline is unconfirmed, a source told CNN the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not listening in June 2016, when Manafort joined a meeting at Trump Tower organized by Donald Trump, Jr., with an intriguing ensemble of characters, including a Kremlin-connected lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton.

According to the report, Manafort was warned by investigators to expect an indictment.

Levin blasted the wiretapping claims during an interview with Conservative Review in March after he mentioned the story on his radio program. That can only come from the Justice Department, with the approval of a FISA court.

The federal government may be closer to proving Donald Trump's campaign was encouraging Russian Federation to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. The former Trump campaign aide reportedly owes money to pro-Russian interests and has funds tied up in Cyprus, a tax haven.

While Manafort keeps a residence at Trump Tower, there is still no evidence Trump himself was under surveillance.

"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory".

Agents had picked the lock to his Virginia home as Mr Manafort lay in bed, and were looking for evidence that he had set up off-shore bank accounts, the newspaper reported.

The reporter explained this "speaks to certainly a level of distrust between Bob Mueller and Paul Manafort, and you can gather that that sends a ripple throughout this investigation and certainly sends a message that this is not going to be your typical slow and steady white collar investigation".

The network reported on Monday that US officials probing possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant on Manafort at some point past year.

Manafort has previously denied that he ever knowingly communicated with Russian operatives. A spokesperson for Manafort did not comment.
