Iran shows off new ballistic missile at military parade

Iran's president Hassan Rouhani

Today, during a military parade in Tehran, which was attended by President Hassan Rouhani, Iran presented its Khorramshahr ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers, which is capable of carrying multiple warheads.

"We will increase our military power as a deterrent".

"Whether you like it or not, we are going to strengthen our military capabilities, needed in the area of deterrence".

The move is a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, who signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

The military parade was an opportunity to scroll through a new missile with a range of 2000 km, called Khoramshahr, in the name of the city occupied by the iraqi army at the beginning of the war that has lasted eight years and killed one million people. After conclusion of the nuclear deal and slight lifting of the United States sanctions, Washington immediately announced about imposition of new sanctions on Iran because of its program for developing ballistic missiles.

Rouhani said the United States and Israel have isolated themselves by opposing the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the other major powers.

Speaking a day later, Rouhani said the Iranian people are waiting for an apology from Trump for his "extremely offensive" rhetoric and "unfounded" allegations about Iran.

Rouhani also said Iran is still fully committed to the nuclear deal.

The officials have not provided any details on the capabilities of the advanced missile, Tasnim news agency reported.

Iranian officials have argued that the measure only applies to missiles specifically created to carry nuclear warheads.
