London police chief: Parsons Green train bomb 'packed with shrapnel'

Suspect 18 charged with Parsons Green terror attack

Police have charged Ahmed Hassan, 18, with attempted murder in connection to the September 15 bombing on a London subway train that injured dozens. Hassan, from Sunbury-on-Thames, a town to the southwest of London, is charged with attempting to murder passengers on board a train heading to central London from the southwest suburb of Wimbledon.

Westminster Magistrates' Court granted police permission to continue questioning two of the remaining men, both arrested in Wales, until Tuesday.

Police said Ahmed Hassan has been formally charged with planting an improvised explosive device that partially detonated at Parsons Green station on September 15 during the height of the morning rush hour.

Hassan was arrested in the southern English port of Dover shortly before 08:00 am the following day. He will also face a second charge under the Explosive Substances Act, for causing a blast likely to kill or maim, BBC reported.

One of those released was a 21-year-old from Syria.

Two men, 21-year-old Yahyah Farroukh and an unnamed 48-year-old, were arrested but have since been released without charge.

Speaking to LBC, Dick said the police had foiled six terror plots "in the past several months", adding that the methods used by terrorists were always evolving.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but authorities have found no evidence that ISIS was involved.

Three other men, aged 17, 25 and 30, are in custody, in connection with the investigation into the attack, according to the police.
