McCain doesn't back GOP health care bill, drawing Trump ire

"They didn't care, nobody cared, because they had a President who wasn't going to sign it", Trump said, referring to Republicans votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) under his predecessor Barack Obama.

Sen. John McCain Friday became the second Republican to oppose the latest Senate effort to repeal Obamacare, joining the other Senate Master of Self-Indulgence, Rand Paul, in opposition.

In addition to McCain, the senator Rand Paul is also in the camp of not, because it considers that the draft law does not go far enough. Through tweets and interviews, he has listed his grievances against the proposal. John McCain said it does not have his support. He said he believes Republicans and Democrats can do better working together.

This leaves Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) with no wiggle room. McCain and Collins, along with Sen. Collins said she would likely make her final decision early next week, but she had nothing positive to say about Graham-Cassidy.

Paul is the only GOP senator who is to vote against the Graham-Cassidy bill.

Trump says the bill would be "great for Arizona" and he says McCain "let his best friend L.G. down!" That's largely because it would give a lot of control over health care to the states, while at the same time curtailing federal funding.

But one expert said the bill's fate still hangs in the balance. Killing people with bad health care policy is a minor detail, which they will happy to blame the governors for. Susan Collins from ME, and Lisa Murkowski from Alaska, are also rumored to be leaning against the bill.

He also says he can't back it without knowing the proposal's impact on insurance coverage and premiums.

The new bill, known as Graham-Cassidy, would completely shake up how the federal government allocates money to states to cover health care.

"Some people are certainly saying it's the death knell of this bill, but I'm not assuming that", said Matt Salo, executive director of the National Association of Medicaid Directors, in Washington, D.C. The organization opposes the bill.

Republicans have been under pressure to rush the bill through because they only have until September 30th to use the budget reconciliation process, which allows certain legislation to pass with 51 votes rather than be subject to a 60-vote hurdle.

The latest analysis of the Senate bill, named for co-sponsors Sen.

Paul spokesman Sergio Gor reiterated his boss's opposition to Cassidy-Graham on Friday.

We should not be content to pass health care legislation on a party-line basis, as Democrats did when they rammed Obamacare through Congress in 2009.
