Whole Foods hacked and credit card info bagged

Whole Foods' restaurants, taprooms hit by credit card data hack

New York, March 11, 2017: People are coming in a Whole Foods grocery store on Union Square in Manhattan. That kale salad isn't sounding quite as appetizing now, is it?

Customers who used credit or debit cards at taprooms or full-service restaurants in Whole Foods stores should check their accounts.

Whole Foods saw a 25 percent increase in sales, according to Fortune, after Amazon bought the company and slashed its prices.

Whole Foods, which belongs to Amazon.com, Inc.

The retailer has already brought in a "leading cyber security forensics firm" to help with an investigation. It's unclear how many restaurants Whole Foods has. The company is unsure of exactly how many stores were affected of the security breach; however, the primary checkout systems were not affected.

The company did not offer specific details regarding which locations were targeted or how many customers were affected in the breach.

Whole Foods did not specify when it's systems were initially breached or the duration.

Just this week, for example, fast-food chain Sonic Drive-In said it was investigating an apparent payment card data breach affecting an unspecified number of its 3,500 franchises across the United States.

World Foods has said that the stores impacted have restaurants on site and because of this an alternate checkout system.

It also clarified that the in-store taprooms and restaurants use different payment systems than Whole Foods check-out counters.

Amazon did not return a request for comment. The company has promised to update customers with more information in the future.
