Freed hostage says Taliban-linked captors killed infant daughter, raped American wife

Joshua Boyle - who arrived at Toronto's Pearson International Airport with his wife Caitlan Coleman and their children - told reporters inside the Air Canada terminal that the Haqqani network killed a fourth child born in captivity, an infant daughter, and raped his wife.

Canadian, who were taken hostage by the Taliban, said the militants killed his baby and raped his wife.

"We join the Boyle family in rejoicing over the long-awaited return to Canada of their loved ones", the Canadian government said Friday.

Taliban sources said the family spent most of their captivity at Haqqani strongholds inside Pakistan, and not in Afghanistan as early Pakistani reports had indicated.

That was two years after he and Coleman, then "heavily pregnant", were kidnapped in a remote Taliban-controlled area of Afghanistan. She was released Wednesday by the pakistani army on the faith of u.s. intelligence, reported the pakistan armed forces.

"They were captured by terrorists from Afghanistan in 2012 and kept as hostages there", the military's media wing said.

The Haqqani group is headed by Sirajuddin Haqqani, who is also the Afghan Taliban's deputy leader.

The youngster, who was born in captivity with his three siblings, appeared to be happy as he played with his father on Saturday.

"It will be of incredible importance to my family that we are able to build a secure sanctuary for our three surviving children to call a home", Boyle told reporters at the airport.

"God has given me and my family unparalleled resilience and determination, and to allow that to stagnate, to pursue personal pleasure or comfort while there is still deliberate and organized injustice in the world would be a betrayal of all I believe, and tantamount to sacrilege", he wrote.

"Taking your pregnant wife to a very risky place to me and the kind of person that I am is unconscionable", Jim Coleman, father of Caitlan Coleman said.

Officials in Pakistan say a roadside bomb attack Sunday killed at least four soldiers and wounded several others near the Afghan border. The team did a preliminary health assessment and had a transport plane ready to go, but sometime after daybreak Thursday, as the family members were walking to the plane, Boyle said he did not want to board, the official said.

Speaking in Toronto, he said: 'I assure you I have never refused to board any mode of transportation that would bring me closer to home, closer to Canada and back with my family.

Boyle was previously married to the sister of Omar Khadr, a Canadian imprisoned for 10 years at the United States detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after fighting U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Officials had discounted any link between that background and Boyle's capture, with one describing it in 2014 as a "horrible coincidence".

He said his captors' actions were a retaliation for his "repeated refusal to accept an offer" from them.

"Coleman and Boyle are not charged with any federal crime and, as such, we do not seek their arrest", spokesman Wyn Hornbuckle said.
