Kneeling during National Anthem equals peaceful social protest

Giants John Mara Most fans demand players stand for national anthem

The Trump campaign released a petition encouraging everyone to stand for the national anthem. No one is disrespecting the flag, anthem and certainly not veterans by kneeling during the National Anthem.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this week at an owners meeting in NY that players are not attempting to disrespect the flag in kneeling during the anthem, although he urged them to stand.

For nearly a month, the american president is engaged in a standoff with the NFL players posing a knee on the ground during the national anthem.

The petition was released October 19, one day after Trump posted tweets criticizing the NFL's recent decision not to force players to stand during the national anthem.

"The NFL has decided that she would force no players to stand up for our national anthem". Total disrespect for our great country!

We are fully aware that in this culture war he has cynically escalated, Trump has the support of millions of fans, who just want the multi-millionaires on their teams to stand up, put their hands on heart, and sing. That's an important part of our game and our moment, and we believe in that. And it's also for us to honor our flag and our country, and we think our fans expect us to do that. The protests had mostly fizzled out until last month, when Trump reignited the issue by decrying any player who kneeled during the anthem as a "son of a bitch" who should be fired. "We did not ask for that", he said, as quoted by CBS News.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, "Get that son of a bitch off the field right now! Out! But really talking a lot about with the opportunity that exists with our players to try to go and really make a difference in our communities in a positive way". Until people like Trump, who refused to condemn racists, white supremacists and KKK, begin a dialogue, protests will continue.
