Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner hands over documents to Special Counsel

Investigators examining US-Russia ties during the US election are reportedly asking witnesses about any role Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner may have had in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner handed over documents related to the Russian Federation probe to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team, media reported. "The establishment has proven time and time again they will fuck Trump over", a Bannon ally told me.

However, it was not clear how Kushner's advice to the President might relate to the overall Russian Federation investigation or potential obstruction of justice, the sources said.

White House sources, however, have indicated that Mr Kushner is not a target of the investigation.

Kushner voluntarily turned over documents he had from the campaign and the transition, and these related to any contacts with Russian Federation, according to a source familiar with the matter.

CNN correspondent Pamela Brown also told Tapper that "some sources" said that Kushner "was a driver in the decision, that he was encouraging the decision" to fire Comey. He was also among three top Trump campaign officials who attended an infamous June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Kremlin-backed lawyer.

The White House didn't respond to Vanity Fair's request for comment.

Sam Nunberg, who works under Stone and briefly worked for Trump's campaign, then criticized Kushner on the record. White House sources say it was the President alone who made that decision after watching Comey's congressional testimony May 3.

CNN's report came one day after Vanity Fair reported that Trump was becoming frustrated with Kushner.

United States investigators are also reportedly looking into Tony Podesta, a prominent Democratic lobbyist, and Vin Weber, a former GOP congressman, the Associated Press reports. One theory promoted by those in the anti-Kushner camp is that Kushner did not want Comey to comb through his own personal finances, and this was a way to slow down any investigation. Both pleaded not guilty.

A report from Vanity Fair suggests that Trump wasn't rattled by Mueller's takedown of former campaign manager Paul Manafort, but took issue with the fact that George Papadopoulos had struck a plea deal - and possibly wore a wire for the past several weeks.

Kushner was also under scrutiny for meetings with Russia's ambassador to the USA and a Russian banker, and for failing to list hundreds of meetings with foreign contacts on his security clearance forms, which he blamed on an assistant.
