Oklahoma woman who married mom sentenced in incest case

Woman Receives Deferred Sentence For Marrying Mother

Investigators told News 4 that 43-year-old Patricia Spann lost custody of Misty, 26, and two other children when they were young.

Misty was given a 10-year suspended jail sentence after admitting incest at Stephens County Court this week, reported Tulsa World.

Department of Human Services investigators discovered the illegal relationship in August 2016 while investigating the children who were inside the Spanns' home.

Patricia allegedly told authorities she was reunited with Misty in 2014 after losing custody and the two "hit it off", Tulsa World reported.

Mother Spann allegedly told cops she didn't think the twosome broke any laws - because she was no longer listed as a parent on Misty's birth certificate.

She married one of her sons in 2008 according to reports.

This is not the first time she has married one of her children, officials said.

The marriage contract between Patricia Spann and her only daughter Misty.

In addition to spending 10 years on probation, the judge also ordered her to undergo counseling and pay various court fees. She was also once married to her son, who had the marriage annulled after claiming incest. The blood relatives somehow married in Comanche County.

Patricia also was charged with incest in the case and is scheduled to appear in court in January.

She says she only consented to getting married after her mother convinced her it was legally OK, saying she consulted three attorneys.

"Why she chose her daughter, I'm not sure", Smith said. "She forced my sister into this, there's a lot of people that know it", he said.

"If that's what you want that's on you, but none of us kids want that". The Spann children were raised by their paternal grandmother.

The marriage was annulled October 12 after Misty filed for an annulment "by reason of illegality and fraud", She said her mother told her she had received legal advice indicating that their marriage was legal because Patricia's name was no longer on Misty's birth certificate.
