Gigi Hadid drops out of Victoria's Secret Fashion Show -- "I'm so bummed"

Katy Perry Banned From China “Indefinitely” Over A Dress She Wore In 2015

Top US fashion model Gigi Hadid on Friday pulled out of the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show in Shanghai after an online video showing her apparently making a slant-eyes face sparked criticism in China. At a 2015 concert in Taipei, Perry wore a glittery sunflower-patterned dress and waved a Taiwanese flag during her performance.

Gigi Hadid did apologize for the video on Weibo, a Chinese social media website, but she continued to receive major backlash, and many did not want her in China for the fashion show. She tweeted, in part, "I'm so bummed I won't be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!" the model wrote on Twitter Thursday.

Harry Styles and Miguel are rumored to be performing at the fashion show, which airs November 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

If Katy Perry's controversial dress is any indication, Hadid's own past controversy came back to bite her. She didn't give a specific reason why she wouldn't be attending, despite previously confirming that she would be there in August 2017. "I have learned to be very careful of how my actions can come off or be portrayed, and I'm hopeful you'll accept my apology".

"She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa", they explained.

Speculation also has swirled over the participation of Russia's Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova, and Ukraine's Dasha Khlystun, after unconfirmed reports suggested they were denied Chinese visas.

The collaboration marks the first time that Victoria's Secret has partnered with a luxury brand to create and exclusive range.

Victoria's Secret veteran Adriana Lima's visa has allegedly been held up due to an ongoing "diplomatic problem". It showed Hadid squinting in a way that appeared to be a reference to a stereotype about Asian facial features.

With the Victoria's Secret show based in the dynamic Chinese city, having one of the country's most viral performers join its cast feels on point.
