Lake Central teacher removed from school, police say

Teacher arrested at Indiana school

A teacher was charged Wednesday with drug possession at a northwest IN high School.

St. John police got the call around 11 a.m. about a possible narcotics situation. Authorities said that the teacher admitted to taking two iPads from the school along with field trip money so that she could support her drug habit. Cox is being held on charges of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, according to St. John police.

Video posted to social media allegedly shows a woman using cocaine in a corner of an empty classroom.

"When I actually watched the footage again and again and I just realized that my english teacher just did cocaine [sic]".

Students quickly shared the video of their teacher online where it spread throughout the school and community. Police arrested Megan Nicole Sloan after she left her Facebook page open, which revealed details of her heroin habit and how she planned on pawning school items.

She was released from Lake County Jail on Wednesday after posting US$1000 bond.

School officials and police praised the student witnesses for bringing the information to the principal of the school.

"Swift and forceful action was taken in conjunction with St. John and Dyer police", he added.

In a statement, St. John Chief James Kveton said the students showed "a tremendous amount of fortitude and integrity" by going directly to the principal.

"Earlier today, lake central administration was made aware of a situation regarding a teacher at Lake Central High School. But it's kinda hard to respect somebody who does cocaine in a classroom", Anthony Rios, a junior at the school, told WGN-TV.
