Black Friday Helps Increase Pocket of Amazon Boss to Reach $100 Bln

Inspiring Stories of Hope

Bloomberg reported that he is the first to reach the $100 billion milestone since Bill Gates did in 1999. The billionaire's net worth increased by $2.4 billion as Amazon share prices increased due to optimism for the companies revenue price following Black Friday sales.

According to TMZ, thanks to the consumerist extravaganza that is Black Friday, the Amazon CEO's net worth crossed the $100 billion line. The last billionaire to do so was Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

As holiday shopping dies down over the next few weeks, Bezos' fortune could fluctuate to below the $100 billion mark. Gates, 62, who has a net worth of $86.8 billion according to the Bloomberg index, although Bloomberg indicates he would be worth more than $150 billion if he hadn't given $700 million Microsoft Corp. shares and $2.9 billion of cash and other assets to charity.

The owner of The Washington Post surpassed Gates as the world's richest person in October, according to Bloomberg.

At the beginning of the year, Bezos cracked the top four, surpassing Inditex founder Amancio Ortega and US investor Warren Buffett at the time.

Bezos' unprecedented explosion in wealth is impressive, but somewhat damaged by his reputation for not giving to charity as much as his peers, like Gates and Warren Buffet. Were he more selfish, Bloomberg estimates Gates could now be worth $150 billion. In June, he tweeted a solicitation for ideas on a philanthropy strategy.

In a stark reminder of wealth inequality in the United States, it emerged this month that the combined fortunes of Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos (roughly $248.5 billion) exceeds the net worth of 160 million Americans, or 53 million USA households.
