Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah wins BBC African Footballer of the Year 2017

Midfielder “Liverpool” and the national team of Egypt Mohammed Salah named best player in Africa in 2017

Salah scored eight goals in six games in all the competitions in November, earning him the title of Player of the Month for the third time with Liverpool.

His fine form has translated to worldwide level where it was his last-gasp penalty against the DR Congo that booked Egypt's place at next summer's World Cup and he's rightfully been named the BBC African Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old has scored more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have managed between them in their league and European outings.

The Reds signed Salah from Roma in the summer for €50million (€42m plus €8m in add-ons) and the Egypt star has so far been a sensation early in his Anfield career. "I feel like I had a great year, so I'm very happy".

Gabon's Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita - his future Liverpool team-mate now at RB Leipzig - fellow Reds star Sadio Mane of Senegal and Chelsea's Nigerian winger Victor Moses lost out to the pacy attacker, nicknamed the "Egyptian Messi".

"I want to be the best Egyptian ever so I work hard".

Roma, in fact, are entitled to receive a bonus of € 1.5 million as soon as Salah scores his 20 goal in the current campaign. I had a very good start with the team, and also the manager [Jurgen Klopp].

Salah is the first Egyptian recipient of the accolade since striker Mohamed Aboutrika in 2008, recognised for his role in the Pharoah's sixth African Cup of Nations success that year, scoring the victor in the final.

Salah said: "I have always followed my way, and I want everyone in Egypt to follow my way".

And Salah has revealed his aim to be the best player to come out of the north African country.
