SNL Tackles Naughty List Members-Moore, Lauer, Franken In Cold Open

Santa’ Fields Questions About Franken Roy Moore Trump in SNL Cold Open by Trent Baker10 Dec 20170 10 Dec 2017 10 Dec 2017

Saturday Night Live got into the Christmas spirit for its cold open this week, but the holiday cheer was quickly snuffed out by an unsettling reminder of the many disturbing headlines to come out of the past year.

Another girl told Santa, "I don't want any presents this year".

He groused that Al Franken had quit the Senate due to claims of sexual harassment, 'and yet uncle Bad Touch is up four points in Alabama'.

'Is Roy Moore on your naughty list?' asked one girl, referring to the Republican Senatorial candidate's alleged abuse of two teenage girls. After some stammering, Santa tried pushing the question off to an elf (Kate McKinnon), who didn't appreciate being called Sugar Plum.

"I saw Al Franken's speech", she continued, pronouncing the senator's last name like Franco.

"What about Roy Moore?"

"Could I get a Mega Bloks Dinosaur", says the first child. "It's not really a list", McKinnon replied. "It's more of a registry". Jessica wonders if President Trump is on the naughty list, to which Santa responds that he'd rather stay out of political matters. As Thompson tries to explain Santa is apolitical, McKinnon interjects, saying: "Nineteen accusers, Google it".

One little girl asks for a Barbie - "unless the "feminazis" are going to take that away from me too". "I know that things seem particularly insane right now", she said. "I learned that if you admit you did something wrong, you're in trouble. But if you deny it, they let you keep your job", she says. Instead, Thompson was asked questions like, "What did Al Franken do?".

As Santa begins to get flustered by the questions, the next few kids to visit bring questions about the recently-passed tax reform bill, opioids, and the potential for an American embassy to be built in Jerusalem following U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. "Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not for another three years, 42 days and 24 minutes", she says, referencing the time remaining in President Trump's current term.

For a little added insurance, though, the kid's putting all her money in Bitcoin.
