Israel intercepts 2 rockets from Gaza in latest exchange

IDF pummels Hamas targets in Gaza in response to rocket attacks

On Thursday, Israel also targeted Gaza sites with air strikes and tank fire after what a military statement described as "a projectile" was sacked into southern Israel.

The four were rushed to nearby Shifa medical center for treatment.

Protesting US President Donald Trump's declaration that Jerusalem is the Israeli capital, terror group Hamas, which runs Gaza and seeks Israel's destruction, called for a new intifada and vowed to liberate Jerusalem.

Palestinians say the two killed were members of the Al-Quds Brigade, the military wing of Islamic Jihad.

The Israeli military carried out a number of retaliatory strikes against alleged Hamas positions overnight following a series of rocket attacks.

Israel typically responds to each Gaza attack and holds Hamas responsible, even though other armed groups in the territory fire rockets.

The previous such announcement was on October 30, when Israel blew up a tunnel dug by Islamic Jihad. Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip since seizing it in 2007 in a near civil war with Fatah, leaving Palestinians with two separate administrations.

The army said in a statement that the Iron Dome missile defense system downed the rockets as they headed toward Israel.

It also fired missiles, which detonated in an open area, just east of the targeted site.

Two of those were killed in clashes, while the other two died in Israeli air strikes in response to rocket fire from Gaza. The employee issue is one of the major sticking points along with the future of Hamas's militant force in a decade of failed reconciliation attempts between the two sides.
